Tiny history break

Minesweeper was bundled with Windows 3.1 in 1992 and became familiar to millions of PC users. Its numbered squares turn probability and deduction into a game where one confident click can still end very badly. One more page from the weird history book: Sudoku became a global craze under a Japanese name, but number-placement puzzles with similar rules appeared earlier in American puzzle magazines. The name roughly means 'single numbers'.
