Puzzle & Thinking Games

Undo buttons radically change puzzle design because they let players experiment with hypotheses instead of treating every uncertain move as a permanent risk. The history behind the category adds another layer: Nonograms encode pictures as number clues along rows and columns, turning image-making into a process of deduction rather than drawing. Puzzle players call it experimentation when the first four plans fail in completely different ways.

Something to tell a friend

The modern jigsaw puzzle grew from 'dissected maps' made in the eighteenth century. Mapmakers mounted geography lessons on wood and cut them into pieces for students to reassemble. Its grid was diamond-shaped rather than the familiar square layouts used today.
