Undo buttons radically change puzzle design because they let players experiment with hypotheses instead of treating every uncertain move as a permanent risk. Put that beside this bit of history: Nonograms encode pictures as number clues along rows and columns, turning image-making into a process of deduction rather than drawing. The phrase 'there must be a trick' is often correct and rarely comforting.

A fact with good replay value

The Soma cube was invented by Piet Hein in 1933. Seven irregular pieces, each made from small cubes, can be assembled into a larger cube and many other shapes,a three-dimensional cousin of tangram-style thinking. Here is another one to steal for a quiz night: Cryptic crosswords developed their modern style during the early twentieth century. A single clue can contain both a definition and a second word puzzle, which means the sentence is effectively trying to distract you from itself.
