Logic puzzles often become easier when the player marks what cannot be true, because eliminating possibilities can be more powerful than guessing what is true. The player-facing version of the idea is simple: Constraint puzzles become readable when information overlaps. One clue narrows possibilities; several clues crossing the same area can force a single answer. The final piece always looks much more obvious after it is in the correct place.

A cryptogram can be difficult even when every symbol has a simple substitution. Language patterns leak information: common letters, repeated words and word lengths become clues. A second piece of trivia is just as good: Mastermind was created by Mordecai Meirowitz and released commercially in 1970. The code-breaking game reduces deduction to colored pegs, but a good guess is really a tiny experiment designed to eliminate possibilities.
