Super Sprint put three steering wheels on one cabinet in 1986, proving that elbow room could be part of the multiplayer challenge. The player-facing version of the idea is simple: Force feedback made steering wheels more than plastic circles by letting games communicate bumps, curbs and loss of grip through the player's hands. The fastest route is usually the one that feels suspiciously slow just before the apex.

One of the first mass-market car radios was sold under the Motorola name in 1930. The brand name itself blended 'motor' with the fashionable '-ola' ending used by audio products of the era. A different kind of surprise: Ford introduced the moving assembly line for Model T production in 1913. Instead of workers moving around a mostly stationary car, the work came to them, dramatically cutting production time.
