Sniper mechanics exaggerate patience by rewarding a pause, a narrow field of view and a single deliberate shot instead of constant firing. Projectile speed creates prediction. The farther away the target is, the more the player is really aiming at where somebody will be rather than where they are. A full magazine creates confidence; an empty click creates instant philosophy.

Worth knowing
GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64 became famous for split-screen multiplayer even though multiplayer was added relatively late in development. A last-minute experiment became one of the game’s defining features. Another tiny history lesson: Space Invaders did not have a fixed rhythm programmed into the alien march. As fewer enemies remained, the hardware had less work to do, so the invaders sped up—an accidental technical effect that became great game tension.
