Logic puzzles often become easier when the player marks what cannot be true, because eliminating possibilities can be more powerful than guessing what is true. There is one more layer to consider. Daily puzzles create social comparison without direct competition: everyone receives the same problem, then discovers that apparently everyone solved it differently. A three-minute puzzle can produce forty minutes of notes if pride becomes involved.

The curious bit

The Tower of Hanoi puzzle was marketed in the nineteenth century with a story about monks moving 64 golden disks. At one move per second, the full task would take far longer than the age of the universe. Here is another one to steal for a quiz night: A Möbius strip has only one side and one edge. Make one from paper with a half-twist, draw a line without lifting the pencil, and eventually you return to the starting point after covering what looked like both sides.
