Galaga let captured fighters become part of the player's strategy: rescuing one could create a more powerful dual-fighter formation at the cost of a larger target. A little game-room trivia

The attract mode on an arcade machine exists to sell the game while nobody is playing. Flashing demos, high scores and sound effects were basically tiny animated advertisements built into the cabinet. A second fact changes the subject nicely: Breakout was designed around the idea of Pong turned sideways and played against a wall of bricks. A tiny mechanical change created a completely different genre of game.
