Split-screen racing creates a unique problem real drivers never face: resisting the temptation to watch somebody else's screen while your own car approaches a wall. That connects nicely with a historical detail. Out Run turned a racing cabinet into a tiny road-trip fantasy: branching routes, bright scenery and a car that existed as much for style as speed. Nothing makes a player respect geometry faster than a corner bordered by concrete.
