Classic arcade games often explain themselves through motion: enemies approach, objects fall, and the player's first mistake teaches the goal faster than a manual could. A related fact is worth keeping. Galaga let captured fighters become part of the player's strategy: rescuing one could create a more powerful dual-fighter formation at the cost of a larger target. A flashing bonus object is the machine asking whether greed is stronger than survival instinct.

Worth knowing
Tempest used vector graphics, drawing bright geometric lines instead of filling the screen with ordinary pixels. Its glowing tunnel still looks striking because it never tried to imitate reality. Then comes this: The attract mode on an arcade machine exists to sell the game while nobody is playing. Flashing demos, high scores and sound effects were basically tiny animated advertisements built into the cabinet.
