A well-made hub town is a pacing device: combat, story, shopping and recovery all meet in one safe place before the next outward journey. That connects nicely with a historical detail: Wizardry became especially influential in Japan, where its party-based dungeon design fed into the development of later console role-playing games. If an NPC repeats a sentence three times, players will still inspect them a fourth time just in case.

Before the next game
RPG 'experience points' turn invisible learning into a visible number. Real life sadly refuses to display a progress bar after you successfully assemble flat-pack furniture. A second piece of trivia is just as good: King's Quest arrived in 1984 and let players visibly walk a character around illustrated scenes instead of navigating only through text. That simple change made the adventure world feel like a place rather than a paragraph.
