A combo counter is behavioral glue. Once the number begins rising, the player starts protecting the streak even when the safer choice would be to slow down. The design side has its own twist: Consistent physics matter more than realistic physics here. Players can master strange gravity if the game behaves the same way every attempt. The cruelest leaderboard position is second because it comes with exact instructions for what still hurts.
