Checkpoint placement changes difficulty more than it first appears; the same obstacle feels harsher when every mistake also repeats a long easy section. One more layer: The sound of a successful action can become a timing cue on its own, which is why skilled players sometimes perform worse with the audio muted. Nothing makes a player appreciate consistency like failing in exactly the same place twelve times.

Skee-Ball was patented in 1908. Rolling a ball up a ramp into scoring rings looks simple, but the combination of speed, angle and bounce turns a carnival machine into a surprisingly precise little physics problem. Another rabbit hole starts here: Billiard 'chalk' is not ordinary classroom chalk. The cube rubbed on a cue tip is an abrasive compound designed to increase friction so the tip can grip the cue ball instead of sliding off it.
