Adventure & RPG Games · 21
Adventure games often hide progression behind knowledge rather than strength; learning a password can be as powerful as finding a better weapon. A related fact is worth keeping: Zork grew from a mainframe adventure created by MIT programmers and later became one of Infocom's defining commercial text adventures. A suspiciously empty room is the adventure-game equivalent of someone saying 'nothing to worry about.'

Trivia unlocked
Adventure on the Atari 2600 hid creator Warren Robinett's name inside a secret room. The 1979 game is credited with one of the first famous console-game Easter eggs, created before 'Easter egg' was standard game vocabulary. A different kind of surprise: The Secret of Monkey Island turned sword fighting into a battle of jokes in 1990. Players had to learn insulting lines and the correct witty comebacks, making vocabulary at least as dangerous as the blade.
