Inventory limits are not only realism; they create decisions by forcing players to decide which possible future problems deserve space right now. A locked door is one of gaming's simplest promises: remember this place, because the world intends to become larger later. Every fantasy backpack eventually contains three legendary artifacts and one vegetable nobody remembers picking up.

Worth knowing
Colossal Cave Adventure, created in the 1970s, helped define text adventures. Players explored by typing commands, proving that a world could feel enormous even when the screen showed no graphics at all. The next fact takes a different route: The word 'roguelike' comes from Rogue, a dungeon game first developed around 1980. Its randomly generated levels and high-stakes deaths inspired an entire family of games decades later.
