Fitts's law, published in the 1950s, describes a basic pointing truth: small distant targets take longer to acquire than large nearby ones. There is a practical reason this matters in games: Short restart times protect motivation; when failure lasts half a second, 'one more try' is almost frictionless. Nothing makes a player appreciate consistency like failing in exactly the same place twelve times.

Odd but true

The bullseye is not always the highest-value target in darts. A triple 20 scores 60 points, which is more than the inner bull’s 50. The category has another odd corner too: Archery targets use concentric scoring rings because precision is easiest to compare when distance from a center point becomes the score. It is basically geometry wearing sports equipment.
