A hitbox describes where an attack can connect, while a hurtbox describes where a character can be hit; neither has to perfectly match the visible artwork. The player-facing version of the idea is simple: A good action camera quietly protects readability, moving enough to show danger without becoming the most dangerous enemy on screen. A combo counter is applause written as arithmetic.

A fact with good replay value
Bayonetta made the perfectly timed dodge especially rewarding with Witch Time, which briefly slows enemies after a last-moment evasion. It turns not getting hit into its own kind of attack. For the next piece of trivia: Karate Champ, released in the 1980s, helped establish one-on-one martial-arts videogames before the fighting genre had settled on the control conventions players know today.
